Another US School Shooting

Ten more people have been killed and ten others injured after yet another shooting in a school in the US. This time, in Santa Fe, Texas, the attacker, who did not shoot himself, was arrested and charged with murder. He is Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old pupil at Santa Fe High School.

He used a shotgun and a revolver taken from his father, who legally owned the weapons.

Most of the dead are students.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reported that several explosive devices were found at the school which is 40 miles south of Houston. They included a CO2 device and a ‘Molotov cocktail’.

Mr Abbott said police found information on the suspect's diary, computer, and mobile phone suggesting that he had planned the attack and intended to kill himself afterwards. However after the attack he gave himself up, saying he had not had the courage to kill himself.

Santa Fe Police Chief Jeff Powell warned people to be aware of any suspicious objects they find, and to refrain from touching them. Santa Fe school police officer John Barnes has been named among the injured. His condition was reported as critical and he was reported as undergoing surgery.

On in another shooting outside a school graduation ceremony, one woman died and another was injured outside a high school graduation ceremony in in Atlanta.

So far this year, more than 5,000 people have died in shooting incidents in the United States, according to monitoring group the Gun Violence Archive. Yet still no action is taken to prevent the dissemination of guns though the US. The vexed subject divides people dramatically. The ‘Right to Bear Arms’ is enshrined in the US Constitution, but seems to have led to a lawlessness that was never intended when created.
