Railworkers Killed in Wales

Network Rail has announced that two rail workers have died after being hit by a train between Port Talbot Parkway and Bridgend stations. The incident happened just before 10:00 BST near Margam.

Officers are working to identify the victims and will seek to support their families at this time.

Transport for Wales said all lines were blocked and services running through the stations may be cancelled. It added it was arranging buses to run between Cardiff Central and Swansea, but could not say when they would begin operating.

National Rail  commented: "There is no firm estimate available as to when the line will reopen, however, we anticipate trains will remain disrupted until 14:00.”

A Rail Accident Investigation Branch spokesman said: "Two inspectors are now travelling to site gather evidence.”

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it sent two rapid response vehicles, two ambulances, two vehicles from the Hazardous Area Response Team, which were supported by a vehicle from the Wales Air Ambulance.
